Carson’s Magical Journey: A Dream Come True
Archway Glendale June 5, 2024 -
We told the story of Carson, a young scholar at Archway Glendale, and her inspiring story of beating her battle with cancer a little over a year ago. You can read that article here. But Carson’s story of bravery, triumph, and a little bit of magic doesn’t end there. Carson’s heart was set on going to Walt Disney World and her wish was fulfilled by Make-A-Wish with a once-in-a-lifetime trip for her and her family to Orlando, Florida during fall break. This wish became more than just a destination. It was a promise of joy, a testament to resilience, and a celebration of life.
The moment Carson and her family set foot in the airport, their incredible journey began. “We were greeted at the airport by her volunteer wish granters, who helped us check in, escorted us to the gate, and gave us a VIP welcome,” said Kristi, Carson’s mother. “Carson had her name on the board at the gate, there were Make-A-Wishsigns hung up, and they even had chairs reserved for us at the gate. The girls got to meet the pilot and sit in the cockpit, and they made a super nice announcement once the flight attendants had seated everyone.”
Make-A-Wish’s generosity knew no bounds. Every detail was included in thisremarkable journey. With hearts full of gratitude, the family reveled in each moment.“Make-A-Wish also paid for our parking at Sky Harbor, our rental car in Florida, and gave us money for food and expenses while on the trip,” said Kristi. “It truly was the trip of a lifetime!”
But the VIP treatment didn’t end there. The family spent three magical days in Walt Disney World and one day at Universal Studios. They conquered every ride they wanted thanks to a pass they received that allowed them to skip to the front of the line. The kids embraced every character they were hoping to meet while they were in the parks. “It was a dream trip,” said Kristi.
After long, exciting days in the parks, the family found solace at Give Kids the World Village, a haven for families embarking on similar journeys. Here, Carson crafted a star that will forever grace the village alongside countless others, a testament to herboundless spirit. Carson enjoyed ice cream around the clock, as well as all the delicious food that was provided for them. They even got to meet Marvel characters on the property.
“I’m so grateful to Make-A-Wish and Give Kids the World for the best trip ever,” said Carson. “I’m glad I got to go with my family, and I loved meeting all the characters like Minnie, Mickey, and Ariel. And my favorite rides were Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure, Slinky Dog and the Frozen ride.”
“This trip meant the world to our family,” said Kristi. “It was a time to relax, enjoy each other’s company, and not worry about the stress of the last few years since Carson’s cancer diagnosis. Seeing the smiles on our girls’ faces, watching them delight in each new experience, and being able to have so much fun together was the most priceless gift.”
For Carson’s family, this trip was more than a vacation – It was a respite from the trials they have faced, a chance to revel in the present, and a reminder of all they have overcome. It has created memories that will forever remain in their hearts and minds.
